Research

ResearchQPASTT values ethical and scientifically robust research which contributes to our knowledge base, to the quality of public policy development and debate, and to improve service to our clients and potential client base. A Research and Ethics Sub-Committee provides clear and transparent advice on research issues to staff and Management Committee.

Research activities are constantly being developed, implemented and finalised. Often research is undertaken in partnership with another organization or research institutions such as Universities. Criteria for approved research include:

  • the research contributes to the knowledge base and/or informs ways in which the quality of life of torture and trauma survivors can be improved
  • the research is adequately resourced
  • the relative contributions of QPASTT and other parties are clearly delineated

Some examples of research either currently underway include:

  • “The perception of migrants of the Australian Health System : The views of a group of migrants living in Brisbane  - undertaken by Leonel Chevez, Indigenous Health Program, University of Queensland
  • “The Impact of Temporary Protection on the Mental health Adjustment of Newly Arrived Refugees” – to be undertaken by Associate Professor R Schweizer, Queensland University of Technology
  • “Dialogue Journey ; An In Depth Dialogue to Determine the Indigenous Healing Practices for Mental Health in Refugee Communities”
