The Rainbow Program for Children in Refugee Families Program Guide
The Rainbow Program for Children in Refugee Families is a school based group program developed by the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture with school communities. It is an early intervention measure for children from refugee and other culturally diverse backgrounds soon after they have arrived to improve their access to the skills and resources they need to make a good start in Australia. The program is designed to be delivered by schools in partnership with counsellors experienced in providing support to refugee families. It includes:

  • a seven session structured group program for upper primary aged children (age 9-12)

The Guide has been developed as a resource for teaching professionals and counsellors wishing to run the program. Designed to maximise the ease of organising the program it includes relevant background on issues of concern to refugee children and their families, practical guidance on planning the program and detailed session plans for all three program components. Support materials (including parent information in relevant community languages) are provided in both hard copy and disc formats. The Guide is $66.00 (incl.
