Current Youth Program Activities

Information Sessions

Weekly information sessions to newly arrived young people at Milpera State High School are given in order for students to have access and information about QPASTT and other agencies services.

Homework ClubHomework Club

This is for high school students needing extra tuition and assistance with Science, Maths and English homework. The homework club is open three afternoons per week. The ‘Drop-Ins’ by youth workers continue at several High Schools in Brisbane namely; Milpera, Yeronga, and Sunnybank focusing on ‘hanging out’ in the play ground and being available for support, information and referrals

HIP (Help Increase the Peace)

The HIP program is a 10 week program run by a worker from QPASTT and partner organisations such as Kyabra Community Association and Contact Inc. It explores the experiences of past, present and aspirations for the future.

Holiday Program

During the school holidays in partnership with the Brisbane City Council’s ‘Chill Out’ and ‘Get Rec’d’, QPASTT facilitates access to a number of youth activities (for 13-22 year olds). Past activities include trips to Dreamworld, sports days of basketball and volleyball, movies, ice skating, table tennis and youth camps where young people go canoeing, swimming, play tennis, basketball, badminton and volleyball. Activities are also supported by funds raised through the Triple J ‘Real Appeal for Young Refugees’.

The Transition Program

This is an opportunity for new refugee students in mainstream schools to connect with students who have spent some time at the new school. The focus is on learning practical information and being supported in the first few weeks of school.

Sporting Teams

Brisbane City Council facilitates access for young people to local sporting clubs. There is currently a team playing with the Dragons Volleyball Club in Qld Volleyball Association competition.
