The Early Intervention project has a responsibility to provide Early Health Assessment and Intervention (EHAI) services for all entrants to Queensland. This is being achieved in a number of ways and in partnership with the Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Support services (IHSS).
The on-arrival and information service is delivered by:

-
ACCESS Inc in Logan and the Gold Coast
-
Anglicare in Toowoomba
-
Townsville Multicultural Service Group in Townsville
-
Centrecare in Cairns
All new entrants receive a Household Formation kit which is being nationally delivered by St Vincent de Paul.
QPASTT’S role is to:
- provide information about the effects of refugee related trauma. resettlement issues and the Australian Health care system
- to make referrals to appropriate primary health care services
- to undertake psychosocial assessments
- provide short term counselling to support settlement
- longer term counselling needs are met through referral to our General team
IHSS services with the responsibility for the Proposer Support Program liaise with us to ensure new entrants are also given information and services. A number of outreach services ensures that EHAI remains relevant. These include:
-
visits to ACCESS Logan
-
visits to Milperra and Sunnybank High schools by the Community Connections and Youth Team
-
providing appointments on the Gold Coast
-
providing workshops and information sessions at South Bank and Yeronga TAFE within the AMEP classes
IHSS providers in the regions will be able to access support from QPASTT. Secondary consultations and training is currently available however direct service provision to Toowoomba, Cairns and Townsville is currently not possible due to limited resources.
