Service Provision

Service Assumptions

To provide high quality services and outcomes to our client/s it is necessary that all interventions are practised within a holistic framework which integrates therapies with meaningful and relevant community connections:

  • If counselling and psychotherapy are to be effective then they must be provided in a culturally appropriate manner within a social justice framework such as that proposed in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • The fundamental experience for our clients is that of profound discontinuity, loss of culture, language, traditions, family, community, values, expectations, etc.
  • High rates of decompensation in marginalised, migrant and refugee groups are the norm, not the exception.
  • The degree to which a person or persons are meaningfully connected to others, (eg. family, communities) is a predictor of the effectiveness of therapy.
  • We recognise the need to draw a distinction between mental health related problems and mental illness related problems and provide support as appropriate.
  • Ongoing training and supervision are a necessary part of providing an effective service.
