Training

How to access training?

QPASTT aims to provide quality training and information on issues related to Refugees and Humanitarian entrants, the impact of trauma and torture and other related issues. The capacity to deliver the training will depend on current resources available, staff skill and interest.  Community based services, community groups and Government agencies are all able to make requests by using the QPASTT training request form and membership form (if necessary).

QPASTT will seek to meet all requests however if unable to deliver the training feedback will be provided within a week but not more than three weeks, from the date of request.  Fees for training can be negotiated and QPASTT will aim to meet costs if no training budget is available.  For further information please contact QPASTT Administration: admin@qpastt.org.au Ph: 3391 6677

What our training covers?

Mainstream professionals are often not equipped to deal with the specific needs of torture/trauma survivors.
QPASTT sees its role as offering specialised direct training and guidence services to people thus affected.

In considering these services, both direct and indirect, it is important to bear in mind that of all the Australian States and Territories, Queensland alone has a population whose distribution is greater outside rather than within its capital city. This makes a consideration of training and guidence responsibilities very different from that of its equivalent organisations. Within the Brisbane area itself regular training is undertaken within:

  • health/education agencies
  • community support
  • CRSS groups

Beyond Brisbane, QPASTT has outreach responsibilities to the Gold Coast particularly, and far North Queensland (Townsville and Cairns). Constant, regular contact has existed with Gold Coast community support services, and recently a regular fortnightly outreach direct service provision by QPASTT has been established at the Gold Coast.

Training has also been provided for CRSS in Gympie, Townsville and Cairns, involving community support services, health services and CRSS groups. Plans are underway to extend the training offered in these more distant areas.
